COMPASS

Community Pharmacy Professionals Advancing Safety in Saskatchewan (COMPASS) is a standardized continuous quality improvement (CQI) program specific to Saskatchewan community pharmacies. The COMPASS program includes safety-related tools for anonymous reporting of medication incidents, proactive review of pharmacy processes and documentation of improvement plan development and monitoring.

The strength of the COMPASS program comes from Saskatchewan community pharmacies contributing to a national database called Community Pharmacy Incident Reporting (CPhIR)—a system for shared learning, the ability to proactively identify potential safety issues through the Medication Safety Self-Assessment (MSSA), and that the tools and processes are provided and supported by ISMP Canada, which is a safety-focused, evidence-based national organization.
